High Deductible Plan G’s benefits
High Deductible Plan G’s benefits are the same as traditional Medigap Plan G, with one added dimension – lower premiums. For lower premiums, one pays the 20% remaining costs until the out-of-pocket maximum deductible for High Deductible Plan G is met. After this, High Deductible Plan G covers costs the same way the traditional Medigap Plan G would.
High Deductible Plan G covers:
- Medicare Part A coinsurance and hospital costs
- Medicare Part B coinsurance or copay
- First three pints of blood
- Medicare Part A hospice care coinsurance or copay
- Medicare Part A deductible
- Medicare Part B excess charges
- Care in a Skilled Nursing Facility
- Emergency care during foreign travel (80% of remaining costs)
What High Deductible Plan G doesn’t cover
High Deductible Plan G does not cover:
- Medicare Part B deductible
It should be noted that High Deductible Plan G does not cover any costs until the out-of-pocket maximum is met. In 2021, High Deductible Plan G’s out-of-pocket maximum deductible is $2,370.
Interpreting High Deductible Plan G’s benefits
High Deductible Plan G is ideal for someone who wants to enroll in High Deductible Plan F, but can’t due to not being eligible for Medicare until on or after January 1, 2020. This is the second most comprehensive plan available, and it offers a lower premium than traditional Medigap Plan G.
